Approximately 85% of people between the age of 11 and 30 years of age, and 5% of adults over the age of 40, will experience mild to moderate acne.   It can be a painful and frustrating skin condition, as blemishes tend to be cyclical in different areas of the body; when one bump heals, it can seem like two other start.

For decades after a patient has successful addressed acne, and reduced instances of flare-up’s, the scarring that the inflammatory condition leaves behind, is highly noticeable, and embarrassing for both men and women.  Women are able to successfully use cosmetics to reduce the appearance of acne scarring, but deeper scars and divots in the skin remain noticeable.

What Causes Acne?

The skin condition occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with oil, debris and dead skin cells.  Acne can appear on the face, the forehead, chest, shoulders, and back, and while the onset of the skin condition typically happens in the teenage years, acne can develop at any time in an adult’s life.

One of the most frustrating aspects of acne, is that it can start without warning, and create significant scarring and emotional distress, radically impacting a person’s self-esteem, as they struggle to fight the condition with over-the-counter treatments, that frequently worsen skin irritation.

Depending on the severity of the acne condition, the patient can experience six different types of inflammatory responses and blemishes on their skin:

  • Closed pores saturated with oil, skin cells and debris can cause whiteheads.
  • Open clogged pores create noticeable blackheads (particularly in oily areas of the skin, like the nose, cheek or chin).
  • Papules (small red bumps) can develop, which are painful to touch.
  • Pustules or pimples, which are papules that develop a pus pocket at the tip of the bump.
  • Nodules that present as large, solid and uncomfortable bumps below the skin.
  • Cystic lesions, which are very painful lumps below the skin, that hold a significant amount of pus, and are sensitive to the touch, due to pressure from inflammation.

For women, there is a link to hormonal fluctuations and the onset of adult acne.  Menstruation can trigger flare-up’s, which are sometimes treated by a primary care physician, using a therapeutic does of oral contraceptives, to help moderate hormones.

The glands that produce oil that is distributed through pores, is related to the male hormone produced by adrenal glands, in both men in women.  That is also why there is a higher prevalence of cases of acne, among men. Other risk factors include genetics, anxiety and stress, living in a hot or a humid climate, or using oil-based skin care products.

Elos Plus Can Fade and Erase Acne Scars

Just because you struggled with the inflammatory condition of acne, doesn’t mean you have to wear the scars for the rest of your life.   Whether you have scars on your face or back, there is an easy, virtually painless non-surgical way to fade, and even permanently erase scars left behind by acne, with advanced technology from Syneron Candela, now available at Eclipse Medspa in Grapevine, Texas.    Elos Plus™ is the alternative to expensive plastic surgery, to effectively remove dark spots and scars, with results you can see after every treatment session.

How Does It Work?

The Sublative RF™ applicator on Elos Plus™ delivers safe levels of radio frequency (RF bipolar energy) to the skin, through electrode pins on the device. Both the dermis and epidermis levels of the treatment area are thermally ablated.   Traditional fractional ablative laser treatments affect only the top levels of the skin, with minimal stimulation to cells below the surface.

As the cells heal, not only are scars faded, but patients can experience a reduction in the depth of surface scars, as collagen is stimulated below the surface.  The natural increase to collagen in the treatment area, minimizes the appearance of deep crevices causes by acne scarring. Women and men with olive toned or darker skin, can develop hyperpigmentation blemishes, using traditional laser ablative therapies.  But Elos Plus™ is safe and effective for all skin types, with no downtime required after treatment.
